Mentone Girls’ SC students Zoe Cunningham and Kisarna Berntsen (Year 8) competed in the 2015 State Little Athletics Championship at Lakeside Stadium in Albert Park on 27th March. Both students have been selected to represent Victoria at the Australian Little Athletics Championship in Perth on 26th April. Zoe won gold in the Under 14 Shot Put throwing 10.95m on her last attempt and Kisarna won gold in the Under 13 Javelin throwing a staggering 37.24m. Congratulations girls and good luck in Perth. The Regional Swimming Carnival was held on March 26th at MSAC with 15 Mentone students competing on the day. Amber Cardwell (Year 10) won gold in the U16 50m Butterfly, Teiki Waata (Year 8) won gold in the U13 50m Breaststroke, and Cara Jenkins (Year 7) won gold in the U13 50m Backstroke. We also had our U13 and U15 4x50m Freestyle relay teams win gold. Next stop is the State Carnival on April 15th where Mentone has 9 students competing. Congratulations to all 15 competitors at the Regional Carnival. Go Mentone
The Year 7 Summer Beachside round robins were held on Friday 20th March. With cricket, volleyball, softball and tennis being available Mentone fielded two teams in each sport.The girls competed very well in hot conditions and the tennis, volleyball and softball teams won their round robins. They will be in the Regional finals in April and May. Thank you to Ms Parker, Ms Peach, Ms Hatch, and Mrs Steinfort for coaching the girls. Go Mentone
On Tuesday 10th March, 24 Mentone students competed in the Beachside Swimming Carnival at Oakleigh Recreation Centre. Our girls represented the school with excellence throughout the day which resulted in MGSC winning the Junior, Intermediate and Aggregate Girls’ scores for the carnival. Well done to Liz Kourtis for winning the Under 15 Age Group Champion as well. There will be 15 students representing the district at the Southern Metro Region Carnival on Thursday 26th March at MSAC. The girls competed superbly with the volleyball and cricket teams winning their round robins. They will be in the Regional finals in May and October respectively.
