Over the last two days Year 9 student Cara J (Year 8) has competed at a Victorian Swimming meet where she has swum in 5 events and incredibly got 4 personal best times. Cara has been training consistently over the winter and spring in preparation for the summer competitions but has not raced since the autumn season.
Cara didn't get any national times, but came very close to two times - the 50 Free and 100 Back. The 50 Free she got a 28.57 whereas the national time is a 28.10, and in the 100 Back she got a 1.10.83 whereas the national time is 1.09.80. It was a very successful weekend and her mindset was very positive! Cara has been an avid student of sport psychology in 2016, changing her approach and attitude towards swimming and competition very impressively. She says that she is getting better and better and that she is enjoying racing (but not getting up at 4:30am every morning) a lot more now because of her positive attitude. Below is one of Cara's favourite quotes and two of her favourite books this year have been Michael Phelps' 'No Limits' and Rafael Nadal's 'Rafa'.

Our Year 8 Basketball team made it through to the State Final held at MSAC on Monday 14th November. They played three games that were all very close, they won one and lost two. The standard of play was outstanding by all members of the team.
The girls had a successful day of improvement, fun and great team work. Their first game was against Maribyrnong Sports Academy. The girls put in a hard battle and defended really well against some very tall players but unfortunately they lost by eight points. Their second game was against Lavalla Catholic College from Traralgon. Again they played really well, moved the ball around the court and scored well. Unfortunately they lost by four points. Lavalla ended up winning the Year 8 Basketball State flag in the final against Bendigo. MGSC played Templestowe College in our third game and won by four points. All eight players should be congratulated on their efforts. The team consisted of April B, Mikala C, Maddy G, Uma M-M, Paige P, Marion S, Sanju S and Daisy W. A big thanks to Barry McCabe for coaching the girls on the day. Go Mentone!
