Fourteen Mentone Girls' SC students competed in the Lifesaving Victoria carnival at Mordialloc Lifesaving Club on Wednesday 24th February. Competing against private and government schools from Yarra Valley Grammar School to Padua College our students had a successful day in the water and on the beach. MGSC finished fifth in the girls competition on 120 points which was 100 points less than first place, however with only fourteen competitors we had at least 1/3rd that first place had. Millie Belleville won the 1km run, 70m Beach Sprint, and the Board Rescue with Anna Bowyer , Anna also came second in the Flags event beating Millie out for the same flag in the final 3. Manna Johnson and Ella Southgate (all Year 8) competed in almost all events and placed third in the Board Rescue. Teiki Waata won her 70m Beach Sprint and Beach Relay, third in Wade and sixth in Swim. Teiki partnered up with Ruby Crofts (both Year 9) and came second in Board Rescue, Ruby also placed 8th in the Flags event. Tash Belleville came first in the Board Race and Board Rescue with Jordy Bruce, and third in the Cameron Relay along with Sarah Mathews, Jade Crofts and Jordy (all Year 10). Tash, Sarah and Jordy also came second in the Board Relay. Sasha Long came in the top 8 of the Flags event, Mikaela Dale and Sasha came third in the Board Rescue, and Sam Gibson and India Clarke (all Year 11) came 7th in the Board Rescue.
Thanks to former MGSC students Steph Canty and Kiele Dale for helping out, it was great to see ex-students showing their MGSC spirit. Big thank you to Chris Belleville and Sean Bruce for packing the trailer and supplying the boards. And thanks to all parents who came and offered their help and support. Go Mentone
