With an early 7am meet at Mentone Train Station, thirteen MGSC students and 30,000 participants competed in the Run for the Kids fun run on Sunday 20th March. The 2016 Run for the Kids had two options which were the 5km or 16km events.
Two Year 10 students, Katie Marquis and Nikki Stobie, opted for the grueling 16km which they completed in 2hours with a mix of running, jogging and walking. Nine Year 9 Fitness and First Aid students plus the Hands family of ex-student Shari, brother Fin and mum Tamara, Nell Hutchinson (Year 7), Tegan Matthews-Ritchie (Year 12), Ms Jager and Mr Bruhn all completed the 5km event. The race to the finish line was a three way battle between Emily Ryan, Jas Hands and her brother Fin, followed by Ms Jager and Tegan. Well done to all the students and their families for taking part in the day. The fun run ended up raising 1.7 million dollars for the Royal Children's Hospital. Thanks again to the parents for being up so early on a Sunday. Go Mentone!
