State Cross Country
The MGSC Under 15 and 17-20 age group teams competed at the State Cross Country in Bundoora on Thursday 20th July. With a huge downpour of rain just before the U15 event, the course was extremely muddy with many competitors having a tumble on a few particular segments of the course. Both of our teams finished in second spot with a Silver medal.
Another medal result for both age groups as they were Gold medalists in 2016. Congratulations to Millie B, K. B., Maddie A, Daisy W and Teiki W; Emily M, Emilie T, Sarah M, Tash B and Katie M on their achievements in this years Cross Country season. We wish Millie B the best with her upcoming XC National events, and Emily M (Yr 12) all the best for her future running career in half-marathons and marathons beyond MGSC. Good luck!

Daisy W 38th also competed in the U14 event and Hannah E 34th was our solo U15 competitor. The U16 team won a Gold medal as well. Last but not least was our solo Year 12 runner and Kenny House Captain - Maddie C. Maddie has competed in Cross Country every year at MGSC and set her sights on making States for the first time. Not only did she succeed in making it to States but she came home in the top 50 finishing 41st. Well done on a great XC career at MGSC Maddie.
As always, thank you to Mrs Jackie Mathews for her help and support as well as the parents who attended. The Cross Country season is now over and our girls have outdone themselves yet again, I thank all the girls who attended the cold morning running sessions and those who committed hours outside of school to achieve these results. Congratulations and I thoroughly look forward to next years XC season. Go Mentone!

State Cross Country Carnival - GOLD
The State Cross Country carnival was held on Thursday 16th July at Bundoora Park. The State’s best runners were present with each age group having between 80 and 100 competitors including 7 MGSC students representing the Southern Metro Region. MGSC’s day started off incredibly as the Under 13 team won the gold medal! (The team competition is where the five selected student’s scores are added together to produce an overall time). This means that MGSC had the 5 fastest Under 13 girls in the State. A huge congratulations to Millie B (9th), K.B (16th), Teiki W (33rd), Holly T (53rd), and Maddie A (55th) for being MGSC's first State Gold medallists in a number of years.
Next up was Lucy B (Year 9) in the Under 14 event where she finished in 45th position which was fantastic as at one point she wasn’t going to make it due to being stuck in Bali because of Mount Raung erupting.
Last up was Emily M (Year 10) who had not represented MGSC at State level before and finished in 13th position in the Under 15 event. Emily has been training consistently throughout the year and her fitness has improved to a very high standard. Well done to all our competitors and parents who have followed their daughters throughout the carnivals this year. Lastly, a big thank you to Mrs Jackie Mathews for coordinating the SMR and State carnivals. Go Mentone
