On Wednesday 31st August, MGSC entered two teams into the All Schools Relay Championships at Lakeside Stadium. Competing as bottom ages in the Under 16 Girls 4x100 and Medley relay our girls also ran against the best and fastest Private and Government teams in the State. The 4x100m relay team came home in 6th spot and you can see the video below. We start in Lane 2 with Chelsea R (Year 8) running the first bend holding her spot and gaining on Lane 3; Zoe C (Year 9) receives the baton cleanly and speeds past Lane 3 and catches the outside lanes as well; Teiki W (Year 9) dominates the bend by bridging Lanes 4 and 6 and changing the baton over in 4th spot; Kisarna B (Year 9) finishes the straight against the best of the best 15 year olds in the State to finish in 6th spot. A great effort by all the runners. Our Medley Relay team was up next (video is below as well). Teiki started with a 200m run in 28seconds; passing to Zoe who put in a fantastic 200m in 26seconds to be in 1st position; Kisarna was next up with the 400m run (64seconds) and passed on the baton in 3rd place to Millie B (Year 8) who ran the 800m leg. Millie was up against the Under 16 National Champion and various other State runners, Millie ran the 800m in 2.34 which meant our finish time was 4.32 and 8th spot out of 23 teams. A brilliant achievement considering the quality of athletes in the event and being a bottom age team. Thank you to all the parents who came and registered the girls for their events. Go Mentone!

Another big thank you to Mark Georgeson of Bayside Futsal Pirates who has trained the Year 7 and 8 futsal teams on Friday afternoons, and also attended the Year 7 competition. Go Mentone! So far this term we have had the Intermediate Interschool sport competitions where our basketball and hockey teams competed well but did not progress to Regionals but the futsal team was successful in their round robin.
The Regional competitions were held over the last few weeks and our Year 8 and Intermediate's A teams will be going on to compete in the State competition on August 29th and September 5th respectively. Congratulations to our Senior B team as well who won their round robin, unfortunately the B group competition does not progress to States. Good luck to our Year 8 and Inter girls at the next round.
